Jupiter statue

Yesterday I got my picture taken with the statue of Jupiter at South Station. The statue is part of a replica of the solar system that is scattered around Boston. Each planet is represented by a to-scale model, placed at the same distances from the sun as they are in space. The sun is a big ball at the Science Museum, with a diameter of 11 feet! The name of the project is the Community Solar System.

Exciting discovery.

The other day, I was looking at the BBC News website and I came across an article about a new exoplanet (a planet that orbits around a star other than our sun) that has been discovered. I found this interesting because many exoplanets are very similar to Jupiter, most of them being gas giants. This particular exoplanet is the largest one to be discovered yet - so large in fact, that it is about 70% bigger than Jupiter!

Despite its immense size, this giant planet has a density of only 0.2 grams per cubic centimeter, which means it would theoretically float on water. To read more about it, go here.

Welcome to my first post in my shiny new blog devoted to my favorite planet, Jupiter. I'll try to update about once a week with my thoughts on the planet, or any random news I find out about it.

Earlier this evening, at around 10:20 PM, I saw the moon hanging low in the sky. It was tinted a very eerie, deep red. Thin black clouds were streaked across it. I couldn't help but stare and admire how it looking strikingly similar to Jupiter. I wished I had a camera with me, but sadly I did not. A photo on my crappy digital camera probably wouldn't have done it justice, anyway.
